My Heart on a String Valentine Scarf

Give the gift of love this Valentine's Day by crocheting this cute My Heart on a String Valentine Scarf! This is one of our favorite Valentines Day crochet projects because it's bold and beautiful. You could easily wear this crochet scarf all winter long!

No Name Valentine Scarf


One size.
Scarf: 6” x 65” excluding pompoms
 

Materials:

RED HEART® “Soft Yarn”: 1 ball each 4604 Navy A, 4601 Off-White B, 9522 Leaf C and 9925 Really Red D.
Crochet Hook: 5 mm [US H-8]
Stitch marker, yarn needle.

GAUGE: 14 hdc = 4”; 12 rows = 4” in hdc. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.


Abbreviations:
A, B, C, D = Color A, B, C, D;
ch = chain; hdc = half double crochet; inc = increase;
mm = millimeters; sc = single crochet; st(s) = stitch(es);
* or ** = repeat whatever follows the * or ** as indicated.
 

Special Abbreviation
Inc (increase) – 2 sc in next sc.
 

HEART (make 4)
With D, ch 17.
Round 1: 3 sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in next 6 ch, skip 2 ch, sc in next 6 ch, 3 sc in next ch; continuing to work along underside of ch, sc in next 6 ch, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 space, sc in next 6 ch, place marker to indicate beginning
of round.
Round 2: Inc in next 3 sc, sc in next 5 sc, skip 2 sc, sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in next 7 sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 space, sc in next 7 sc.
Round 3: [Inc, sc in next sc] 3 times, sc in next 4 sc, skip 2 sc, sc in next 5 sc, [inc, sc in next sc] 3 times, sc in next 7 sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 space, sc in next 8 sc.
Round 4: Sc in next sc, [inc, sc in next 2 sc] 3 times, sc in next 2 sc, skip 2 sc, sc in next 4 sc, [inc, sc in next 2 sc] 3 times, sc in next 8 sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 space, sc in next 9 sc.
Round 5: Sc in next 2 sc, [inc, sc in next 3 sc] 3 times, skip 2 sc, sc in next 3 sc, [inc, sc in next 3 sc] 3 times, sc in next 9 sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 space, sc in next 10 sc.
Fasten off.
 

SCARF
With A, ch 212.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across.
Row 2: Change to B, Ch 2 (counts as hdc), hdc across.
Change to C and continue in this manner, working in color sequence A, B, C, until 18 rows are complete. Fasten off.


FINISHING
Gather one end of scarf. Sandwich scarf ends between 2 hearts and sew together, using overcast stitches around edges of heart and sewing through all layers to secure ends of scarf. Repeat for other end of scarf.
Make two 1 1/4” pompoms each in A, B and C. *Cut a 24” long piece of A, fold in half, insert hook into tip of heart, pull up center for starting chain; ch 10. Fasten off, then attach to A pompoms. Repeat from * with B and C for B and C pompoms. Repeat for 3 pompoms at other end of scarf. Weave in ends.
