Send out your invites. Invite a mix of your best friends and some new friends. Game nights are a fun way to bond with people without the awkwardness of get-to-know-you conversation over dinner.

Choose what games you're going to play. There are a lot of games where you can play with a limited amount of players. Depending on how many people come by, you might want to have multiple game stations set up or pick games that accomodate a lot of people.

Arrange your furniture to accommodate a group of people sitting around a game board or table. If you're having a few different game stations set up, then moving your furniture might be required. If not, bring some extra chairs into the living room and set some cushions on the ground for all of the extra people.

If you serve food, make sure it's easy to eat while also playing games. Chips and salsa (don't forget the guac!) and other finger foods are great for casual game nights. You can also ask your friends to bring drinks or food over. Making it a potluck is a great way to share with your friends and also keep costs down.

Don't bother setting the mood. You can have music on in the background, but chances are people will turn it down just to argue about a point of interest in the game. Instead of candles, use lamps so that you can more easily see the game board.
