Why do we hunt for eggs on Easter?

Many Christians can tell you on the spot why they celebrate the Easter holiday, but many probably couldn’t tell you why the popular Easter activity for kids, the Easter egg hunt, is part of the holiday celebration. In early or even pre-Christian times, the egg was considered symbolic of the rebirth of the earth. The symbol made its appearances often during the spring when plants blossom and animals reproduce. However, Christians adapted the symbol for their own use and considered it to represent the resurrection of Jesus. The symbol of the egg then transitioned from just rebirth to tomb that Jesus rose from. According to theologists, the custom arose from Protestant Christian Martin Luther where he had men hide eggs for the women and children as if they were searching for the tomb from which Jesus arose. Since then, the tradition has grown and become an integral part of Easter celebrations, so make this adorable Easter basket and start hunting for eggs, finally understanding why it’s done.
