Materials List

  • 12" x 12" artist canvas
  • 6" high natural wooden heart
  • 1.4" high natural wooden house
  • 2.4" wide natural wooden laser cut-out of the word "LOVE"
  • 3mm wide cotton twine
  • 15mm wide cream-with-golden-polka-dots washi tape
  • Acrylic paint: raw sienna, green gold, and cream
  • Pentel ultra fine black pen
  • Rolkem gold dusting powder
  • Quick-drying clear gloss spray varnish
  • Quick-drying craft glue (such as Bostik Clear)
  • Super Glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Standard scissors
  • Pencil
  • Sponge - use one that was in a medicine bottle

Instructions

  1. Paint the top and sides of the canvas with a layer of raw sienna paint and allow to dry thoroughly.

  2. Use a piece of twine to add a textured pattern to the canvas. Use Super Glue to adhere the twine to the canvas.

  3. Paint the canvas and twine in raw sienna and allow to dry thoroughly.

  4. Cut the sponge in two. Use one half of the sponge to apply green gold paint to some areas of the canvas. Allow to dry thoroughly.

  5. Use the second half of the sponge to apply an uneven cream wash to the top and sides of the canvas and allow to dry.

  6. Cover the heart with strips of washi tape. Use Bostik to make sure that the tape won't come undone and cut off any protruding edges.

  7. Use Super Glue to adhere the tape-covered heart to the canvas.

  8. Use a pencil to write the words "Makes a" in the first line and "a Home" in the second line. Use the Pentel pen to draw over the pencil lines.

  9. Use Super Glue to adhere the wooden house in the first line next to the "a."

  10. Use Bostik to adhere the word Love across the wooden heart.

  11. Use the paintbrush and the gold dusting powder to add a gold shimmer to some areas of the canvas.

  12. To protect the canvas from wear and tear, apply one coat of the quick-drying spray varnish to the top and sides.
