History of Wind Chimes

While you are making this decorative craft, you may be interested in the history of wind chimes. Wind chimes are considered to be a type of percussion instrument usually made from tubes, rods, or bells that make melodic sounds when clanked together in the wind.

The ancient Romans had their version of wind chimes made from bronze. They would hang them in gardens or courtyards to ward off evil spirits. In later years in India and China, wind chimes were hung at the edges of pagoda roofs to ward off pesky birds as well as evil spirits. As years went on, wind chimes became a symbol of status, growing more intricate in design and constructed to be more harmonious and pleasant to listen to.

Today, they are used as beautiful, outdoor decorations usually decorated with florals or natural colors. Now that you know wind chimes were used for good luck, you can make this fun craft to ward off those pesky evil spirits.
