How to Thrift Shop Effectively: Tips for Recycled Craft Ideas
Shopping thrift stores for your craft supplies can be incredibly rewarding if you do it right. Sometimes we don't know what will work until we see someone else do it on a craft blog. We have some thrifting tips for you that are going to prepare you for the next time you head out to the local secondhand stores in search of the perfect material for your recycled crafts.
1. Know the sale days: A lot of thrift stores have sale days when different colored tags mean different things. You can ask a sales associate to let you know what colored tags are on sale that day or what days they typically have sales.
2. Think outside the store: Everything you see might look a little grungy or drab inside the store, but you have to imagine it in your home. What could you do with it to make it prettier or useful again? That being sad, if you see potential in everything, you're going to break your wallet. So, be creative, but also careful.
3. Be patient: Thrift stores have constantly rotating inventory. You never know what's going to turn up on any given day. If you don't find what you want on the first trip, then wait a couple of days. Chances are you will find something you want.
4. Typically, nice area means nice thrift store: If you go to a good part of town, then there's a good chance that there will be better stuff inside the store. Side note: go thrift shopping when you're in a new place! New place = new options. When you're on vacation, take a couple of hours and find the local thrift and antique stores. They will be better than dinky souvenirs and probably much cheaper!
5. Don't be afraid to leave empty-handed: Thrifting is like an ongoing treasure hunt and half the fun is in the search. Have fun poking around in the store and if you find something - great! If you don't, then you can always come back and the fun will start all over again.

Also remember that thrift stores sell out fast, so if you see something that you like, grab it right away. It'll be gone if you wait to think it over.

This is just precious! The more beat up the bucket, the better! I would have to add holes in the bottom for drainage if it was a beat up bucket. The portulaca is perfect.

This is such a sweet idea! Like the other posters, I happen to have a faucet, but it's an old brass one. I didn't know what to do with it but I couldn't just toss it! I have to find a bucket or container now. I am thinking moss rose. On a side note, that's a nice write up about shopping thrift stores.

Same here as the other poster. I had some outside plumbing work done and they replaced the faucet and asked if I wanted the faucet that had about two feet of pipe still attached. You bet I did.you just never know what you can do with it.and to think I use to shake my head at my dad for not tossing out stuff !

this is simply perfect I found a faucet on a length of pipe and have wanted to do something with it (other than stand it in the midst of a patch of petunias and other flowering plants) All I need now is to find a bucket and we're good to go.
