What a cute idea. I have made similar ones myself but I used free samples of wood flooring as my base. You can get then at any big home improvement store. They are three or four inches square and real wood. I turned them over, put the design on one side and glued little circles of felt on them so they wouldn't scratch my furniture . Of course if you like the wood design just keep that side up and glue things on the bottom for protecting your furniture.

I love the idea of napkins but you would need to seal them so that if the water drips on them it wouldn't ruin them.
