Spoon Petals Flower Brooch

If you want to make something for Mom that will knock her socks off, try your hand at this awesome Spoon Petals Flower Brooch! Not only is this spoon brooch a really unique idea, it also looks great too! Who would have ever thought you could create something so pretty out of melted spoons? Find out how you can create one of the most memorable and special Mothers Day gifts with this tutorial from craft designer Carlene Eshelman.

 

Spoon Petals Flower Brooch 

 

Materials:

  • 10 white plastic spoons
  • Candle votive
  • Utility scissors
  • Rhinestone
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Tweezers
  • Bowl of water for safety
  • White paint (optional)
  • 1 ¼” felt circle
  • Large safety pin
  • Hot glue gun
     

Instructions:

1. Light candle.

2. Take first spoon and hold bottom tip of spoon to candle flame.

3. Once tip is melted, continue to melt both sides of spoon. Use tweezers to flatten spoon as needed.

4. Melt handle of spoon, ½” from bottom of spoon. When handle droops, cut with scissors.

5. Continue to melt all 10 spoons.

6. To attach spoon petals, melt petal “handle”, and attach to another petal. Continue until you have 5 petals together to create one flower layer.

7. Melt 5 more petals together to create second flower layer. Try to make this layer flatter than the first.

8. To adhere layers, melt bottom of top layer, and then quickly attach to second layer.

9. Paint with acrylic paint. Let dry.

10. Spray with white spray paint, if desired. Let dry.

11. Hot glue rhinestone to middle of flower center.

12. Stick safety pin through white felt circle. Make sure it can clasp together.

13. Hot glue to bottom of flower layers.

14. Pin onto clothing.
